Pupils from Prokuplje Received Textbooks

26 December 2013, Prokuplje

Secondary school pupils from socially vulnerable families of Roma or Serbian nationality in Prokuplje received today 117 textbooks that they could not afford in order to keep up with the curriculum without difficulties. The procurement of textbooks was financed by the European Union and the Government of Switzerland through the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme EU PROGRES.

In cooperation with the Roma Association “Prokuplje” through EU PROGRES thirty children attended preparatory classes for enrolment into secondary schools during 2013. Now, the textbooks are procured for 24 of them who enrolled into Grammar School, Agricultural School, Technical and Medical School in Prokuplje, as well as the School of Economics in Kuršumlija and Niš, in order to enable them to continue their education. In that way they were prevented from dropping out of further schooling.

“It is very important to give the children a chance to go to school since good-quality knowledge will help them turn their dreams of a better life into reality. Only with good education can be build better society,” said Petar Janjatović, representative of EU PROGRES.

The European Union and the Government of Switzerland through EU PROGRES allocated EUR 600 for this project.
