EU PROGRES Marks First Anniversary in Prokuplje
10 June 2011, ProkupljeThe European Partnership with Municipalities Programme PROGRES celebrated its first anniversary on 10 June by a series of activities aimed at presenting the Programme to the residents of Prokuplje.
President of the Republic of Serbia Boris Tadić, who was on an official visit to Prokuplje that day, visited the Programme stand and talked to the PROGRES staff and volunteers. The performance of 700 children from the kindergarten Neven, who in the late afternoon danced to children’s songs on the main square wearing T-shirts in different colours designed especially for the event, attracted the most attention among the residents of Prokuplje.
To show their appreciation to the local community for its cooperation, PROGRES staff donated funds and bought books and other material in Braille for the Toplica District Association of Blind and Visually Impaired Persons.
PROGRES is a development programme implemented in 25 South and South West Serbian municipalities by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) with the financial support of the European Union (14.1 million Euros), the Government of Switzerland (2.5 million Euros) and the Government of Serbia (1.5 million Euros). The European Partnership with Municipalities Programme PROGRES is assisting the municipalities in improving their infrastructure and the quality of the services they offer citizens and businesses, in upgrading their work in accordance with the principles of good governance, and in promoting their development potentials.
