Improving lives of women in Toplica District and South West Serbia

12 July 2013, Prokuplje

The European Union and the Government of Switzerland, through the European Partnership with Municipalities – EU PROGRES, are supporting seven projects in Prijepolje, Ivanjica, Žitorađa, Sjenica, Priboj, Nova Varoš and Raška, worth 2.4 million dinars, which will improve women’s health, contribute to economic empowerment, and fight gender based violence. The projects will be implemented until November 2013.

After providing expert support and technical assistance in developing local Gender Equality Action Plans, EU PROGRES announced the Call for Proposals for projects addressing gender equality agenda in twelve municipalities of Toplica District and the South West Serbia. The Call pertained to: promotion of gender equality agenda at the local level; women participation in decision making processes; women participation in the sector of public services provision; improvement and protection of women health; fighting gender based violence; gender mainstreaming in local institutions, organizations and media; women economic empowerment and support to networking activities of the local gender equality mechanisms for increased outreach and impact.

One of the objectives of the process was to provide the local Gender Equality Mechanisms with an opportunity to assert their role within the respective local governments through preparation and execution of relevant gender related activities, in order to advance and emphasize equality agenda in the local communities and local governments. Table with information about projects is posted on EU PROGRES website http://www.euprogres.org/dokumenti/sr/6_89_GEMs_Project_Proposals_Evaluation_Table_Ranking_List.zip
